In 2026, Indonesia's small appliance market is projected to exceed 133 million units in sales volume, with kitchen appliances accounting for over 60%.
Among kitchen appliances, rice cookers rank first with a 28% market share. Models with 1.8 to 3-liter capacity, suitable for larger families, are the most popular.
The biggest hurdle for rice cookers entering the Indonesia market is not logistics – it's SNI certification.
SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) is the Indonesia national standard, equivalent to China's CCC certification. Products listed in the mandatory catalog must obtain SNI certification;
otherwise, they cannot be cleared through customs or sold in the market.
Since July 2025, SNI mandatory certification has become a prerequisite for customs clearance of kitchen appliances. Products without certification cannot enter the Indonesia market.
According to Indonesia regulations, rice cookers with a capacity ≤ 3 liters or power ≤ 1000W must comply with SNI certification standards.
Certification timeline: Standard certification takes 3 to 6 months, excluding Indonesia trademark registration time.
Dual-certificate system (2026 new regulations):
SNI CoC (Certificate of Conformity) – Valid for 5 years, covering product testing and factory quality system audits
SPPT (Market Distribution Permit) – Used for customs clearance and sales, valid for 4 years
Both certificates require annual surveillance audits.
Local representative requirement: Overseas manufacturers cannot apply for SNI certification directly. They must appoint a locally registered Indonesia company as their official representative.
This representative must hold an NPWP tax number, business license, and import license.
Your cargo arrives but cannot be cleared.
At the end of 2025, a Chinese small appliance brand failed to obtain dual SNI certificates (CoC+SPPT), had instruction manuals not in Indonesia, and lacked a local representative.
As a result, 300,000 air fryers were destroyed in Indonesia, resulting in a loss of RMB 20 million.
This is not an isolated case. Missing SNI certification is the number one reason kitchen appliances get held at customs.
