For Indonesia importers and freight forwarders, washing machines are a practical product category: stable demand, high container-volume value, and clear compliance requirements. The key is not only to find the right supplier, but also to control documents, packaging, loading, and customs coordination before cargo leaves China. |
Indonesia’s home appliance market continues to grow with urbanization, rising household income, and stronger demand for convenient home-living products. Washing machines are no longer only a premium household item; they are widely used by families, apartments, laundry shops, hotels, and small commercial users.
For importers and distributors, China remains an important sourcing market because of its complete manufacturing supply chain, wide model selection, flexible production capacity, and competitive pricing.
According to 6Wresearch [1], Indonesia’s washing machine market was estimated at USD 458 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 607 million by 2032, with an expected CAGR of 4.1% from 2026 to 2032.

· Top-loading washing machines
· Front-loading washing machines
· Twin-tub semi-automatic washing machines
· Washer-dryer combo units
· Commercial laundry machines
· Spare parts and accessories, such as motors, control boards, panels, drums, pumps, and hoses
Different models require different packing methods and loading plans. Front-loading units are usually heavier and need extra protection around the glass door, while twin-tub models are lighter but can be more sensitive to stacking pressure.
For washing machine shipments from China to Indonesia, importers usually need to prepare and review the following documents before shipment:

Indonesia’s BSN standards catalogue lists SNI IEC 60335-2-7:2019 for household and similar electrical appliances - particular requirements for washing machines, and SNI IEC 60456:2009 for performance measurement of household washing machines. [2]
· 1. Electrical compliance and product labeling: Check voltage, plug type, model labels, serial numbers, Indonesian labeling requirements, and whether SNI-related documents are needed.
· 2. Packaging strength: Review carton thickness, foam protection, corner protection, bottom support, and moisture protection before cargo pickup.
· 3. Accurate declaration: Confirm HS code, product model, quantity, gross weight, and cargo description before SI submission and customs declaration.
· Large volume but moderate weight: Washing machines usually occupy more container space than their actual weight suggests, so CBM planning is important.
· Carton and foam protection are critical: Poor outer cartons may lead to dents, scratched panels, broken doors, or damaged control panels.
· Stacking control is necessary: Some washing machine cartons cannot be stacked too high, especially for mixed models and front-load units.
· Moisture and handling risk: Home appliances should be kept away from rain, wet floors, and container condensation risk during loading.
· Document accuracy affects customs speed: Incorrect HS code, vague description, or mismatched model information can cause customs delay or document revision.

For most washing machine shipments, sea freight is the preferred option because of the product size and carton volume. FCL shipping is suitable for bulk orders, while LCL can be used for smaller trial shipments or spare parts.
Air freight is usually not recommended for complete washing machines unless the shipment is urgent, high-value, or intended for sample testing. However, spare parts such as motors, control boards, panels, and accessories may be shipped by air when fast delivery is required.
· Confirm carton dimensions, gross weight, and loading direction before container planning.
· Check whether cartons have “Do Not Stack”, fragile, moisture, or upright marks.
· Avoid placing heavy cargo on top of washing machines.
· Use pallets or wooden base support when required by the supplier or importer.
· Inspect container condition before loading, especially floor, roof, door seals, and odor.
· Take loading photos and videos for record, especially for high-value branded cargo.
· Seal the container properly after loading and record the seal number.
For fragile home appliances, loading supervision is strongly recommended, especially when the shipment contains mixed models, branded cargo, or strict delivery deadlines.
