Docking stations, USB hubs and chargers are often purchased under one broad label such as 'computer accessories,' but they are not one logistics category. A passive hub may only split data ports. A powered dock may add video outputs, Ethernet, card readers and USB Power Delivery. A wall charger converts power without storing it, while a power bank is a battery for transport purposes.

The challenge is therefore both technical and physical. Similar-looking models can support different data rates, display limits, charging profiles, plug versions and cable capabilities. Compact cartons concentrate value and dense components, and a sellable kit can be incomplete when one host cable, AC adapter, detachable cord or interchangeable plug head is missing.

For an importer or Indonesia freight forwarder, the safest approach is model-level control before pickup. Build a Function Matrix Before You Quote

Start with a SKU-level function matrix instead of a generic 'USB accessory' description. This separation supports HS review, import checks, carrier acceptance, packing and insurance.

Protect Ports, Cables and Dense Power Components

Retail cartons are designed for presentation and controlled distribution, not necessarily factory pickup, warehouse receiving, LCL consolidation, terminal handling and destination delivery. FedEx's electronics guidance recommends checking the original cushioning and using a sturdy outer box when more protection is needed. Commercial shipments should apply that principle according to carton strength, product density and the actual route.

l Cap exposed ports and plug pins: use clean protectors so USB-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet and AC pins do not carry impact loads.

l Restrain captive and detachable cables: keep connectors away from metal housings and avoid sharp bends that can damage strain relief.

l Separate dense components: do not allow a heavy GaN charger, power brick or aluminum dock to strike lighter hubs and plastic accessories.

l Protect cosmetic surfaces: use fitted sleeves or films on anodized housings and charging stands when visible scratches create retail claims.

l Control electrostatic exposure: use suitable anti-static protection for unpackaged circuit boards, engineering samples and repair components.

Control the Exact Bundle and Power Specification

A docking-station bundle may include the dock, host cable, AC adapter, detachable power cord, plug head, mounting piece and manual. A charger program may combine several wattages and cable ratings in nearly identical boxes. When suppliers deliver components separately, warehouse consolidation becomes a controlled kitting operation, not a simple carton-count exercise.

l Use a model-specific BOM: define the exact dock, adapter, cord, host cable, plug head and manual required for each sellable unit.

l Record every power profile: match input range, single-port output, combined output and advertised wattage to the model label and file.

l Do not treat all USB-C cables as equivalent: verify intended data rate, video support, current rating and Power Delivery capability.

l Separate plug and language variants: prevent Indonesia-destination cartons from being mixed with another market's plug or labeling version.

l Reconcile supplier substitutions: hold any unapproved adapter, cable or housing revision until the buyer confirms compatibility.

l Photograph the completed kit: when inspection scope allows, record the components, labels and resealed condition before final packing.

Indonesia Import Readiness Starts with the Exact Model

Indonesia's National Single Window provides HS-based tariff and import-control information. The importer or appointed customs broker should confirm the classification, restrictions and supporting approvals for each model before shipment. A bus-powered hub, multifunction data dock, static power converter, wireless charging stand and power bank should not automatically share one code simply because every product uses a USB connector.

The consignee should confirm that its NIB and import access cover the planned activity. The commercial invoice and packing list should identify product name, brand, model, principal function, port or power configuration, wireless and battery status, quantity, unit value and origin. Cartons, weights, dimensions and pallet allocation must reconcile with the final cargo.

Do Not Treat Every USB-C Product as the Same Device

The connector shape does not prove the product's function or performance. One USB-C hub may only add USB-A ports, while another dock may combine video, Ethernet, audio, card reading and high-wattage Power Delivery. The technical file should show the host interface, every downstream port, data rate, display limit, network function and power role so the importer can review the model accurately.

USB-IF compliance information is also useful when product or packaging claims Certified USB, USB Type-C or USB Power Delivery performance. USB-IF states that certified products are added to its Integrators List and that certified-logo use requires the relevant license. Logistics documents should not repeat unsupported logo or performance claims supplied by a factory.

Wireless Functions Need a Separate Review

A wired Ethernet port is not a radio function, and a passive USB hub should not automatically be treated like a Bluetooth- or Wi-Fi-enabled device. If a dock, charger or control unit adds Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular or another transmitter or receiver, Indonesia's telecommunication-device certification and current class-license rules may become relevant. Flag wireless charging and other non-standard functions for importer review rather than assuming approval from a sales name.

Ask for the complete model number, technical sheet, radio functions, operating frequencies, test reports and current Indonesia approval evidence where applicable. The model on the certificate, retail carton, product label, invoice and packing list should be consistent before loading.

Most Chargers Are Not Lithium-Battery Cargo

A wall charger, AC adapter, powered USB hub or ordinary docking station usually converts or distributes power without storing energy in a lithium battery. Those products should not be declared as battery cargo merely because they charge another device. The decision changes when the product contains an internal backup battery, functions as a power bank or includes separate cells.

The 2026 IATA guidance treats power banks as batteries and assigns them to the applicable battery entry, rather than as batteries contained in equipment. For any battery-equipped model, disclose chemistry, watt-hours, cell or battery count, state of charge, installation or packing configuration and spare-battery status. The carrier may require MSDS, a UN 38.3 test summary, declarations, marks, labels or other records according to the configuration and service.

Check SNI and Product Approval by Exact Scope

Indonesia's mandatory SNI rules apply by defined product scope, not simply because an item is electronic. Current Ministry of Industry regulations cover specified audio-video and household electronic categories, while other plugs, cords, power products or components may have their own requirements. Do not assume that every charger requires the same approval, or that every dock is exempt. The importer should check the current HS-based position in INSW and confirm the applicable SNI, labeling, safety and technical requirements for the exact model before shipment.

Documents to Prepare

l Commercial invoice and packing list: model-level descriptions, quantities, values, origin, cartons, weights and dimensions.

l Function and port matrix: brand, model, principal function, host interface, every port, data or video capability and kit contents.

l Power and plug file: rated input, output profiles, total wattage, Power Delivery role, adapter model, cord and destination plug.

l Classification and approval support: catalogs, product photos, proposed HS codes, safety reports and current SNI evidence where applicable.

l Wireless approval support: technical reports, frequencies and current Komdigi certification evidence for radio-enabled models.

l Battery schedule: chemistry, watt-hours, quantity, configuration, state of charge, MSDS and UN 38.3 summary where applicable.

l Brand, USB and origin support: brand authorization, logo-use evidence and Form E or other origin documents when applicable.

l Transport instructions: B/L or AWB data, consignee details, carton and pallet marks, service scope and handling notes.

Compliance reminder: Import, SNI, wireless and carrier requirements can change and may be model-specific. Verify the current position with the importer, customs broker, INSW, relevant authority and selected carrier before release.

Choose Air, LCL or FCL by the Actual Cargo Profile

l Air freight: suitable for urgent launches, samples and high-value orders, subject to security screening and battery acceptance for power-bank models.

l LCL sea freight: practical for smaller commercial lots and multi-supplier consolidation, with stronger master cartons and pallet control for repeated handling.

l FCL sea freight: suitable for larger retail programs or high carton counts and gives better control over loading, separation and seal integrity.

The mode decision should consider gross weight, CBM, carton strength, unit value, supplier count, launch deadline, battery configuration and approval status. Chargers and metal docks can be dense, so chargeable weight and pallet limits matter even when cartons look small. Repeated handling, missing accessories or theft can create a loss far larger than the freight saving.

For LCL cargo, build stable pallets without carton overhang, use moisture, edge and top protection and prevent dense charger cartons from being placed above lighter hubs. Any solid-wood pallets or crates used in international trade should meet applicable ISPM 15 requirements.
