Strong Market Demand, Strict Compliance, and Careful Logistics Handling

Why Are Tire Imports to Indonesia Still in Demand?

Indonesia has a large and active automotive market, supported by motorcycles, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, logistics fleets, construction vehicles, and replacement tire demand. As transportation, delivery services, infrastructure projects, and e-commerce distribution continue to grow, tires remain a stable import category for Indonesia.

Market research expects Indonesia’s tire market to keep growing through 2030, supported by motorcycle usage, commercial fleets, and the country’s automotive base. For China suppliers and Indonesia importers, this creates strong business opportunities — but tire shipments are not only about finding space and moving containers. Compliance, documentation, product category confirmation, and customs coordination must be prepared before shipment.

Common Tire Categories Exported from China

· Passenger car tires

· Motorcycle tires

· Light truck tires

· Truck and bus tires

· Inner tubes

· Industrial or construction vehicle tires

· Agricultural machinery tires

Different tire types may fall under different HS codes and compliance requirements, so importers should confirm the product category carefully before shipment.

What Documents Are Usually Required?

For tire shipments from China to Indonesia, the following documents are commonly needed:

For tires, the product name, brand, size, model, quantity, and HS code must be consistent across the invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and customs declaration documents. Any mismatch may cause customs questions or clearance delays.

Key Compliance Points for Tire Imports

1. SNI Certification

Tires are a regulated product category in Indonesia. BSN lists standards such as SNI 98:2019 for passenger car tires, SNI 99:2019 for truck and bus tires, SNI 100:2019 for light truck tires, and SNI 101:2019 for motorcycle tires. Before shipping, importers should confirm whether the specific tire type requires SNI certification and whether the product is already registered for the Indonesia market.

2. NPB Registration

Indonesia’s LAMANSITU system shows quality policy information for product categories, including SNI and NPB requirements for certain tire categories. Importers should check whether the tire brand, size, and product category have the necessary registration before arranging shipment.

3. Brand and Product Description

Tires are often brand-sensitive products. Customs may pay attention to the brand, origin, product marking, and registration status. If the tire brand is not properly declared or if the documents do not match the actual cargo, the shipment may face inspection or clearance risk.

Before loading, it is better to confirm brand name, tire size, pattern/model, quantity, gross weight, volume, outer packaging condition, marking on tire and packaging, and whether the importer has valid compliance documents.

Logistics Challenges for Tire Shipments

Bulky Cargo

Tires take up a lot of container space. Even when the cargo is not very heavy, the volume can be high. Good loading planning is important to improve container utilization and reduce freight cost.

Mixed Sizes and Models

A single shipment may include many tire sizes and models. If the packing list is not clear, it may create problems during warehouse receiving, customs inspection, or final delivery.

Container Loading

Tires must be loaded carefully to avoid deformation, cargo collapse, or wasted space. For large shipments, loading photos, tally records, and container loading supervision can help protect both the shipper and the importer.

Customs Inspection Risk

Because tires are related to safety and regulated standards, customs may check product labels, brand information, SNI/NPB documents, and HS code classification. Any inconsistency may delay clearance.

Container Planning Matters

For tire cargo, container choice and loading method should be discussed before booking. A 40HQ is commonly used for high-volume tire shipments, but actual loading quantity depends on tire size, packing method, whether different models are mixed, and whether other parts are loaded together. Large-size truck tires, OTR tires, or mixed-size cargo may require special loading planning and photo confirmation.
