Shipping Ceramic Tableware from China to Indonesia

How ECBEC helps buyers manage breakage supplier consolidation and delivery costs

A restaurant can receive its container on time and still be unable to open if the dinner plates are chipped, the coffee cups are missing or matching bowls are stuck at another factory. For Indonesian importers and freight forwarders, a successful tableware shipment means receiving the right items in usable condition, with a delivery plan that fits the customer’s business.

Hospitality remains a relevant market for this cargo. In July 2026, ANTARA reported renewed activity around Indonesia’s foodservice and hospitality sector [1]. Separately, World Bank WITS data show that China supplied about USD 15.1 million of Indonesia’s USD 16.2 million in porcelain tableware and kitchenware imports in 2024 [2]. These figures provide market context rather than a forecast of current tableware demand.

The shipping problem starts before pickup

Plates, bowls, mugs and serving dishes need different protection. A mixed order also needs clear item codes, carton counts and a realistic date when every supplier will finish packing. ECBEC coordinates the China-side handover so your team can identify problems while the goods are still accessible, before a missing item or weak carton becomes a destination problem.

Broken pieces can erase the saving on freight

A fragile label cannot stop two plates rubbing together or a mug handle taking the weight of another item. Weak inner packing, loose space and excessive stacking pressure can leave cartons looking intact even when the contents are damaged. Replacing a small shortage may then require a separate shipment and delay the customer’s opening or replenishment plan.

Before collection, ECBEC can request packing photographs and coordinate with the supplier on protection for rims, handles and other vulnerable parts. We discuss separators, cushioning, outer-carton strength and any pallet or crate requirement against the actual product. If the proposed packing needs reinforcement, we agree the work and cost with you before dispatch. A warehouse check covers the agreed scope; opening cartons or arranging a product inspection must be agreed separately.

Different factory dates can hold up the whole order

One supplier may have the dinner plates ready while another is still printing a logo on the cups. Booking around the first factory’s date can lead to storage costs or an incomplete set arriving in Indonesia.

We collect each supplier’s ready date, pickup address and packing details, then work backward from the required delivery date. Where practical, we arrange collection to a shared warehouse and track receipts by supplier and purchase order. If one factory is late, we show the choice between waiting and splitting the shipment, including the extra freight and handling involved. You decide with the effect on your customer’s operation in view.

Similar cartons can hide the wrong mix of items

A shipment of white dinnerware may contain several plate sizes, bowl shapes and cup capacities. A total such as “200 cartons of ceramics” does not tell the receiving team which items have arrived. Mixing pieces, sets and cartons on different suppliers’ lists can also create apparent shortages that take days to reconcile.

ECBEC helps align carton marks with the consolidated packing list. Each line should identify the supplier, item code, description, pieces per carton, carton quantity and packed weight and dimensions. We check received carton counts and visible package condition against the supplied records and flag differences for confirmation. We can coordinate sample carton checks when agreed; counting sealed cartons does not verify every piece inside.

Packing protection changes the transport cost

Gift boxes, cushioning and pallets can increase the final shipping volume. A quotation based on the unpacked products may therefore understate the amount of space required. Dense ceramic cartons also need a loading plan that considers weight and stacking limits.

We quote using packed dimensions and gross weights, then compare LCL and FCL where both are practical. The comparison includes origin handling, any agreed reinforcement and available destination-charge information. For shared-container shipments, we discuss protection for additional handling. For a full container, we coordinate weight distribution and securing with the loading team. The choice depends on the complete shipment, receiving arrangements and cost, rather than a fixed volume rule.

The customer needs a delivery date they can plan around

A vessel’s estimated arrival is only one part of the timeline. Factory completion, warehouse receipt, export cutoffs and destination handling all affect when the restaurant or distributor can use the goods. A low freight rate offers little value if the shipment misses the required opening date.

ECBEC checks available sailing options against the actual cargo-ready dates and tells you which arrangements are still awaiting confirmation. We coordinate shipping documents with the suppliers and your nominated destination agent, including consistent goods descriptions and consignee details. Product classification and any applicable import or food-contact requirements should be confirmed with the Indonesian importer and broker before booking. We then provide shipment updates so your team can adjust delivery preparations when the schedule changes.

Send ECBEC the order before the factories dispatch

Share your item list, supplier addresses, trade terms, packed carton or pallet dimensions, gross weight, ready dates and destination. Include the date your customer needs the goods and any unloading limitations. We can build the pickup, consolidation and freight proposal around those details, with the scope and charges stated clearly.

For Indonesian freight forwarders, ECBEC can act as your China-side coordination partner while you manage the relationship with your customer. Contact Max at bdd07@ecbecs.com or WhatsApp +86 19880952425 to discuss your next tableware shipment.
