Secure packing, consolidation and ocean freight solutions from China
Vending machines and self-service kiosks require equipment-specific packing and loading plans.
Shipping smart equipment is not the same as moving ordinary boxed cargo. Tall cabinets, sensitive touchscreens, payment modules, cooling systems and electronic components all need protection from impact, tilt, vibration and humidity during international transport.

A vending machine may look like a single metal cabinet, but it can contain a display, dispensing mechanism, card reader, refrigeration components, glass panels and delicate internal wiring. A self-service kiosk may also include a printer, scanner, camera, cash-handling unit, battery or wireless communication module. Damage to any one of these components can delay installation or require expensive on-site repairs.
The logistics plan should therefore start before pickup. The supplier, buyer and freight forwarder need to agree on the actual machine configuration, gross weight, center of gravity, packing method and handling limitations. For a project with many units or several suppliers, this early coordination is often the difference between an orderly rollout and a costly rework at the warehouse.
A quotation based only on the words "vending machine" or "kiosk" is rarely reliable. The shipping method, container utilization and handling equipment depend on the exact model and packing condition.

The best packing method depends on the value, weight and construction of the equipment. A simple carton may be acceptable for a small desktop kiosk, while a full-height machine normally needs a reinforced pallet, rigid protection and a method of preventing movement inside the container.
l Screen and glass protection. Use a clean protective film, foam board or fitted cushioning that does not press directly on the display. Protect projecting card readers, scanners and payment terminals separately.
l Cabinet and door control. Lock doors, secure internal shelves and dispensing components, and immobilize moving parts. Remove loose accessories and pack them in labelled cartons.
l Base support. Use a pallet or skid strong enough for the gross weight and forklift handling. Heavy or high-center-of-gravity machines may need additional base reinforcement.
l Moisture protection. For ocean freight, use moisture-resistant wrapping, desiccants where suitable and sealed accessory cartons. Avoid trapping moisture against electronics.
l External restraint. Add corner protectors and appropriately rated straps. Where a crate is used, design access points so the unit can be handled safely without damaging the cabinet.
Pallet support, corner protection, moisture control and external restraint reduce movement and impact risk.
If the packing uses solid wood, confirm that it meets the destination's phytosanitary requirements. ISPM 15 applies to regulated wood packaging material used in international trade and requires approved treatment and marking. Engineered wood products such as plywood are generally treated differently, but the final packing design should still be checked before shipment.
LCL can be practical for a sample machine, replacement unit or small kiosk shipment when the packing is strong enough for repeated warehouse handling. However, a tall or fragile machine may be exposed to more handling points during consolidation and deconsolidation. The outer crate must be able to tolerate forklift movement and nearby cargo.
FCL is usually better for multiple units, full project rollouts or machines with large glass areas. A dedicated container gives the loading team more control over floor layout, blocking and bracing. A 40-foot high-cube can improve capacity for tall equipment, but the decision must be based on packed dimensions, weight distribution and safe loading clearance rather than theoretical cubic volume alone.

Before loading, check the packed width, door clearance, forklift entry direction and center of gravity. Machines should normally remain upright unless the manufacturer has approved another position. Place anti-slip material under skids where appropriate, distribute weight evenly across the container floor and protect the machines from direct contact with container walls.
Timber blocking, bracing and rated lashing should be selected for the actual cargo weight and route. The loading team should photograph the empty container, floor condition, packing marks, restraint points and the final closed-door condition. These records help the overseas agent understand how to unload the equipment safely.
A measured loading plan protects the machines, preserves unloading access and makes better use of container space.
The commercial invoice, packing list and transport document must describe the cargo consistently. The importer or Indonesia freight forwarder should confirm the HS classification and any product-specific requirements before booking, especially when the machine combines several functions such as vending, payment, refrigeration, printing or telecommunications.
