Why These Machines Need a Logistics Plan

Aluminum window and door production lines are rarely made up of one standard machine. A typical order may include a double-head cutting saw, CNC machining center, end-milling machine, corner-crimping machine, copy router, punching press, dust collector, tooling, and spare parts. Each component can have a different footprint, center of gravity, packing method, and handling requirement.

That combination creates three common risks: choosing a container before the final packing dimensions are available, loading long equipment without enough clearance, and allowing control cabinets or precision rails to move during sea transit. A China-side logistics partner should therefore review the complete packing list, photos, dimensions, and gross weight before confirming the route and equipment type.

Export packing should be designed around the machine’s sensitive points and the planned loading method. Plastic film alone may keep dust off the surface, but it does not stop corrosion, impact, or movement. For sea freight, the packing plan should normally address the following:

· Moisture protection: use a sealed barrier layer, desiccants, and suitable anti-rust treatment for exposed steel components and tooling.

· Structural protection: mount the machine on a rigid base or skid capable of supporting its gross weight during forklift and crane handling.

· Control protection: immobilize moving heads, protect touchscreens and electrical cabinets, and isolate delicate parts from vibration.

· Accessory control: label toolboxes, stands, conveyors, guards, manuals, and spare parts against the packing list.

· Wood packaging compliance: when solid-wood crates, pallets, or dunnage are used, confirm applicable ISPM 15 treatment and marking requirements before shipment.

Important: Final packed dimensions matter more than catalogue dimensions. The crate, skid, protruding control cabinet, and lifting clearance may change whether the cargo fits a standard container or needs special equipment.

Choosing the Right Shipping Equipment

Standard 20GP or 40HQ

A standard dry container is usually the most economical option when all packages fit through the door and can be safely moved into position. A 40HQ is often preferred for a full production line because it provides more internal volume, while a 20GP may be suitable for a compact but dense machine. Container payload limits, road weight rules, factory loading access, and carrier acceptance still need to be checked for every shipment.

Open Top or Flat Rack

An open-top container may be considered when overhead loading is required or the cargo cannot pass through the door height. A flat rack may be necessary for machinery that exceeds standard container width or height. These options require accurate dimensions, center-of-gravity information, lifting plans, and carrier approval. Out-of-gauge surcharges and terminal handling can materially affect the total cost.

LCL for Small Accessories

Spare parts, tooling, and small auxiliary equipment may move as LCL when they are well crated and clearly separated from the main machinery shipment. However, frequent handling increases exposure to impact and moisture, so fragile electrical components need robust packing and precise marks.

Loading, Blocking, and Securing

Machinery must be secured for the forces generated during trucking, terminal handling, and vessel movement. The loading team should distribute weight over the container floor, keep heavy packages low, protect the container walls and doors, and prevent sliding, tipping, or contact between packages.

· Confirm the center of gravity and approved lifting points before using a forklift, crane, or gantry.

· Use correctly rated straps, chains, timber blocking, or engineered bracing appropriate to the cargo and container.

· Protect rails, guards, painted surfaces, and protruding controls from direct strap pressure.

· Photograph the empty container, loading process, blocking, final securing, and sealed doors for the shipment record.

· Verify the final gross weight and submit the required verified gross mass information before the carrier deadline.

A Practical China-to-Indonesia Shipping Workflow

1. Collect shipment data: packing list, commercial invoice, machine descriptions, HS code candidates, packed dimensions, gross weights, photos, and cargo-ready date.

2. Review the factory: confirm pickup address, loading access, crane or forklift availability, working hours, and responsibility under the agreed Incoterm.

3. Select the route and container: compare standard and special equipment, carrier schedules, transit time, free time, and space availability.

4. Prepare export packing and marks: coordinate moisture protection, wooden packing compliance, package numbering, and lifting or center-of-gravity marks.

5. Arrange pickup and loading: position the container, supervise loading where required, document securing, and return the laden container before cut-off.

6. Complete export handling: verify shipping instructions, export declaration data, VGM, bill of lading details, and destination contact information.

7. Coordinate Indonesia arrival: share pre-alert documents early so the consignee and customs broker can prepare clearance and delivery arrangements.

Documents and Information to Confirm

Exact requirements depend on the machine, transaction, carrier, and Indonesian importer. The following information should be confirmed before booking rather than treated as a last-minute paperwork task:

· Commercial invoice and detailed packing list with package-level dimensions and gross/net weight.

· Clear machine names, functions, models, serial numbers where applicable, and consistent HS classification support.

· Sales contract or purchase documentation required by the trading parties and customs broker.

· Wood packing treatment/mark information when solid wood is used.

· Electrical, battery, oil, refrigerant, pressure-vessel, or other special-component information where relevant.

· Consignee/importer details and any required permits or technical approvals confirmed by the Indonesian side.

Because customs classification and import controls can vary by model and configuration, the Indonesian importer or appointed customs broker should validate the HS code and permit position before the cargo leaves China.
