Industrial boilers and heating systems are essential to food processing, textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, hospitality, and power-related projects. Moving them internationally, however, involves more than reserving a container. Their weight, cylindrical shape, projecting valves, control cabinets, refractory linings, and sensitivity to moisture all require careful planning before the cargo leaves the factory.

A boiler project is rarely a single machine. It may include the main pressure body together with burners, pumps, economizers, water-treatment units, tanks, chimneys, ducting, electrical cabinets, piping, platforms, and spare parts. Each package may need a different loading method.

The first decision is dimensional, not commercial. Before comparing freight rates, confirm the packed length, width, height, gross weight, lifting points, center of gravity, package count, and whether any component can be removed. A small change in packing can determine whether the cargo fits a standard container or requires special equipment. |

Heavy and uneven weight distribution. A boiler shell can concentrate substantial weight over a short footprint. The loading plan must consider container payload, floor loading limits, axle restrictions, road permits, and the position of supports.
Irregular geometry and exposed fittings. Burners, gauges, flanges, nozzles, sensors, and electrical components are vulnerable to impact. They should be removed or protected wherever practical, and all loose parts must be inventoried.
Moisture and corrosion risk. Ocean transit exposes cargo to humidity, condensation, and salt-laden air. Bare metal, internal pressure chambers, and electrical cabinets need suitable wrapping, desiccants, vapor-corrosion protection, and sealed openings.
Project timing. Boilers often arrive as part of a factory installation. A missing burner, control panel, or pipe package can delay commissioning even when the main unit arrives on time. Package numbering and document control are therefore as important as physical loading.

Export packing should be designed for the complete journey: factory handling, inland trucking, terminal operations, ocean transit, discharge, and final delivery. The packing method must match the cargo value, voyage length, climate, handling frequency, and consignee’s unloading capability.
· Drain all water, fuel, and operating liquids unless the manufacturer specifies an approved preservation method.
· Seal openings and flange faces; protect burners, instruments, cables, and control cabinets against impact and moisture.
· Use strong skids or saddles that distribute weight and prevent rolling. Confirm that timber complies with ISPM 15 where applicable.
· Apply waterproof wrapping, desiccants, humidity indicators, and vapor-corrosion inhibitors according to the equipment and transit environment.
· Mark gross weight, dimensions, center of gravity, lifting points, package number, and handling instructions clearly on each package.
· For flat rack or open-top cargo, prepare a professional lashing arrangement using appropriate chains, wires, belts, blocking, bracing, and edge protection.

1. Collect cargo data: Obtain the equipment list, packed dimensions, gross and net weights, drawings, photographs, lifting points, center of gravity, HS codes, cargo-ready date, and delivery requirements.
2. Check transport feasibility: Review container fit, floor loading, route restrictions, factory access, crane or forklift requirements, and special-equipment availability.
3. Confirm compliance documents: Check the commercial invoice, packing list, contract terms, export declaration requirements, certificates, manuals, and any destination-specific permits or inspections.
4. Select and book the transport solution: Compare standard container, open top, flat rack, RoRo, or breakbulk options based on total landed risk - not ocean freight alone.
5. Supervise loading and securing: Inspect equipment condition, verify package numbers, photograph the loading process, protect vulnerable points, and confirm the final lashing arrangement.
6. Control documents and handover: Reconcile the final packing list, shipping marks, container numbers, seals, bill of lading data, and destination delivery plan before departure.
