42Shipping Construction Machinery Spare Parts from China to Indonesia
Packaging container planning and customs preparation for heavy industrial parts
Construction machinery spare parts need more than a basic ocean freight booking. A shipment may combine dense steel components, precision hydraulic parts, fragile electrical items and irregular wooden cases. The safest plan starts with a detailed packing list, then matches each item to the right packing method, container type, loading plan and Indonesian import requirements. This guide explains the practical checks that reduce damage, delay and avoidable destination costs.

The category covers replacement and maintenance parts for excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, cranes and other equipment used in mining, infrastructure and industrial projects. A single order can contain parts with very different handling needs.

The freight forwarder should receive the cargo details before checking rates or space. For every package, provide the English commodity name, quantity, gross weight, dimensions, packing type and photos. Heavy pieces also need lifting points and centre of gravity information. State whether any item contains oil, fuel, batteries, magnets, refrigerant, pressure vessels or other regulated content.
Part numbers alone are not enough for booking or customs review. Clear descriptions such as excavator hydraulic pump or bulldozer track roller help the carrier, consolidator and destination broker understand what is moving. The consignee should confirm the HS classification and import eligibility in Indonesia before the cargo leaves China.

Export packing should be designed around the weight of the part and the number of handling stages. Dense castings and steel parts can break weak pallets even when the outer package looks intact. Use reinforced skids or crates with load bearing beams positioned below the cargo. Bolt or band the part to the base so it cannot move inside the case.
· Apply rust preventive oil or suitable corrosion protection to bare metal and machined surfaces.
· Use waterproof inner wrapping, desiccants and vapour barrier material for moisture sensitive parts.
· Cap hydraulic openings and protect threads, seals, connectors and sharp edges.
· Mark the gross weight, dimensions, lifting points, centre of gravity, package number and consignee reference on each case.
· Use compliant treated and marked wood packaging where solid wood pallets, crates or dunnage are required.

LCL can be practical for smaller orders, but the decision should consider handling risk as well as freight cost. Every transfer between truck, warehouse and container creates another opportunity for a heavy package to be placed incorrectly or damaged. FCL gives the shipper more control over stowage and reduces intermediate handling.

The loading team should distribute weight across the container floor and avoid concentrating heavy cargo near the doors or on a small footprint. Timber blocking, suitable dunnage and rated securing materials help prevent sliding, rolling and tipping. Any gap that allows a package to build momentum at sea should be controlled.
Before closing the doors, record the loading sequence, package positions and securing arrangement with photos. Confirm the verified gross mass and check it against the container, carrier and road transport limits. For very heavy or irregular pieces, arrange a loading plan before the empty container reaches the factory.

A typical file includes the commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading instructions. Depending on the part, origin and import arrangement, the consignee or broker may also request a certificate of origin, technical catalogue, serial number list, insurance document or other supporting information.
Indonesia applies product specific import rules. The importer should verify the HS code, tax treatment, licensing position and any survey or technical requirements before booking. The descriptions, quantities, weights, package numbers and values should remain consistent across the invoice, packing list and shipping instructions. If solid wood packaging is used, verify that the treatment mark is visible and valid before loading.
The Chinese port should be selected by factory location, sailing options and inland cost rather than ocean freight alone. Shanghai and Ningbo often suit suppliers in East China. Shenzhen and Nansha serve South China, while Qingdao and Tianjin can be practical for northern manufacturing regions. In Indonesia, Jakarta is the main choice for West Java, while Surabaya and Semarang may reduce domestic delivery distance for receivers in Central or East Java.
For urgent maintenance parts, compare the complete delivery plan. A slightly later direct sailing may be more dependable than an earlier transshipment with a long connection. The quotation should state the carrier, route, transit time, validity, free time and local charge basis, with final acceptance subject to space and carrier approval.
· Port of loading or factory pickup address in China
· Destination port and whether delivery to the final site is required
· English commodity description and intended use
· Package quantity, dimensions, gross weight and total volume
· Packing photos and photos of the cargo before packing
· Cargo ready date and preferred departure window
· Any oil, battery, magnet, pressure, chemical or other regulated content
· Requested Incoterm and the party responsible for import clearance in Indonesia
For construction machinery parts, accurate cargo data and sound packing decisions have a direct effect on cost, safety and clearance.
