Electric bicycles and electric two-wheelers are becoming an important product category in the China-to-Indonesia trade lane. For overseas partners, the opportunity is attractive, but the logistics process requires careful handling: SNI-related checks, battery documentation, import qualifications, Indonesian labels, disassembly, moisture-proof packaging, and complete origin documents all matter before cargo leaves China.
Key message for overseas partners The market is growing, but every shipment must be prepared correctly before booking. A reliable China-side logistics partner helps reduce document mistakes, battery compliance risks, and last-minute cargo delays. |
Indonesia has one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets. Motorcycles remain a core part of daily transport, and annual motorcycle sales are commonly measured in the millions of units. As fuel cost pressure, urban mobility policies, delivery demand, and electrification plans continue to shape the market, electric two-wheelers are becoming more attractive to importers, distributors, and platform-related buyers.
For China suppliers, this creates strong export potential. For Indonesia freight forwarders, it creates a practical question: how do we move these products safely, compliantly, and efficiently from factory to destination?

Before booking or customs clearance, prepare and check the main shipment documents carefully. For electric bicycles, incomplete documentation may cause booking delays, customs questions, or destination-side clearance problems.
· Commercial Invoice
· Packing List
· Bill of Lading (B/L)
· Certificate of Origin (FORM E)
· SNI Certificate or related product compliance documents
· Import License / Importer Identification such as API, depending on consignee qualification and product classification

Electric bicycles are not general cargo in the simplest sense. Product structure, battery status, packaging, and destination labels must be confirmed before pickup and loading.
Disassembly required – In most export shipments, electric bicycles should be prepared for transport in a disassembled or semi-disassembled form. Frames, batteries, chargers, and accessories should be identified and packed according to the agreed packing plan.
Battery compliance – UN38.3 test summary/report and MSDS are commonly requested for lithium batteries. For air freight or battery shipments governed by IATA Battery Shipping Regulations, 2026 rules require lithium-ion batteries packed with equipment to be offered at a state of charge not exceeding 30% of rated capacity; for sea freight, carrier and IMDG-related requirements should still be confirmed case by case.
Labels in Indonesian – Voltage, capacity, maximum speed, SNI number, and other required product information should be checked in Indonesian where applicable.
Moisture-proof packaging – Indonesia’s tropical climate makes moisture control important. Cartons, pallets, wrapping, and container stuffing should be planned carefully to reduce humidity and damage risk.

· Start SNI-related checks early, especially before confirming the final shipping plan.
· Confirm battery type and battery configuration before pickup.
· Prepare UN38.3, MSDS, battery declaration, and other battery documents in advance.
· Plan disassembly and packaging requirements with the factory before loading day.
· Prepare Indonesian labels where applicable before shipment.
· Use moisture-proof packaging and suitable carton/pallet protection.
· Always consider FORM E if the shipment can benefit from preferential origin treatment.
· Verify consignee/importer qualifications before cargo departs from China.
The electric bicycle market is growing, but every shipment from China needs more than a freight rate. It needs a logistics partner who understands China export procedures, Indonesia customs coordination, battery compliance, and practical factory-side operations.
You do not need to handle the China side by yourself. You need a trusted partner who can check the details, follow the cargo, and help you keep your client relationship strong.
· SNI certification consultation and early-stage compliance reminders
· Battery document review, including UN38.3 and MSDS
· Export customs clearance support in China
· Factory pickup from Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and other major manufacturing regions
· Sea freight booking and carrier coordination
· Disassembly and shipping guidance before loading
· Moisture-proof packaging guidance for tropical destination conditions
· Indonesian label guidance
· FORM E Certificate of Origin processing support
· Document review before shipment release
· Indonesia customs coordination with your destination-side team
· End-to-end tracking and communication follow-up
